Much of the Sunbelt "has [a] low air-quality risk but it has high heat risk, high flood risk, high wind risk from things like hurricanes," she said. When looking at moving trends within counties and cities from 2000 to 2020 paired with flood risks, researchers at First Street Foundation noticed clear signals of people moving away from areas exposed to flooding. Additionally, more than 3.2 million (35.5%) of those residents said they left specifically because of the flood risk. 'I personally was impacted by air quality'Over 85% of homes in 13 major cities are highly exposed to poor air quality; nine are in California and the rest are spread out in Washington, Oregon and Idaho, Redfin found. "I personally was impacted by air quality," Fairweather said.

The vast majority — nearly $40 million — went to law firms working on his personal legal problems. But significant portions of their donations went to law firms defending Trump in civil cases involving his real-estate empire and its top executives, including Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Ivanka Trump. Only about $861,000 was spent on law firms working exclusively on political issues. Where there were gaps, we contacted law firms and individual lawyers who received money from the PACs. In 2021 and 2022 combined, Trump spent $16 million on legal fees through the Save America PAC.

CNN has reached out to Heuermann’s attorney, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and the Suffolk County Police Department for comment. Here is a timeline of the Gilgo Beach killings, how the investigation unfolded and what ultimately led to Heuermann’s arrest. Two days later, investigators discovered the remains of three additional victims – Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Amber Costello and Megan Waterman – strewn across a half-mile stretch on Gilgo Beach. Authorities later said they believed Gilbert’s death may have been accidental and not related to the Gilgo Beach slayings. The task force included the Suffolk County Police Department, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Police and the FBI.

Photo: Eduardo Munoz Alvarez/Associated PressThe former Deutsche Bank executive who recruited Donald Trump as a client testified Wednesday that the bank’s dealings with the former president were lucrative and her superiors were eager to expand them. Rosemary Vrablic , a former relationship manager with the bank’s private-wealth-management division, is one of several witnesses from Deutsche Bank being called to the stand this week by Trump’s lawyers as they seek to rebut allegations by the New York attorney general that Trump committed civil fraud by overstating his wealth for financial gain.

Plenty of people on the Forbes 30 Under 30 lists have turned out to be not quite so shiny. AdvertisementThe Forbes "30 Under 30" lists celebrate the achievements of young people making a mark in a range of sectors. Its "hall of shame" starts – appropriately enough – with Sam Bankman-Fried, the FTX cofounder who was on the 30 Under 30 finance list in 2021. Caroline Ellison was on the Forbes 30 under 30 list last year. Outside the 30 Under 30 finance class, the gun rights activist Cody Wilson also makes the hall of shame.

EbenhackThe first defense expert witness: a Trump mega-donorThe third defense witness to take the stand, developer Steven Witkoff, was, like Donald Trump, Jr., hardly an objective source of testimony. But on Tuesday he became Trump's first expert witness, in the field of real estate valuation. His multi-billion-dollar brokerage firm, Lockton Companies, earned $1.2 million last year as Trump's insurance broker, he said. He said he didn't have a real estate license — he doesn't need one to be a broker, he explained.

A jury found Sam Bankman-Fried guilty in his fraud trial over the collapse of FTX. One by one, his friends flipped to work with the prosecution and threw Bankman-Fried under a much bigger bus. That's how a jury found him guilty of seven counts in his federal fraud trial in downtown Manhattan on Thursday evening. AdvertisementAdvertisementSingh, for example, testified he was "blindsided and horrified" when he found out in November that Alameda had used FTX customer money. The sentencing schedule may depend on a second criminal trial Bankman-Fried faces for alleged illegal campaign contributions.

It was during those hours of questioning that Bankman-Fried repeatedly said he couldn't recall specific details from his time as CEO of FTX, his now-defunct cryptocurrency exchange. Asked whether his support for regulation in the crypto industry was contingent upon protecting customers, Bankman-Fried testified Monday: "I don't recall that specifically, no." He similarly struggled to recall whether he ever mentioned to the public that while trading on FTX, Alameda didn't play by the same rules as other customers. AdvertisementAdvertisementBankman-Fried's instructions as CEO were just 'suggestions'Chelsea Jia Feng/InsiderBankman-Fried insisted on the stand that he didn't recall making various instructions to his employees, especially those like Ellison, Gary Wang, and Nishad Singh. Asked if he instructed Ellison to purchase cryptocurrencies in her capacity as co-CEO of Alameda, Bankman-Fried was vague, saying, "I don't recall an instance.

Sam Bankman-Fried's defense attorneys have argued that FTX's collapse is complicated and he didn't know everything. AdvertisementAdvertisementDuring opening statements at Sam Bankman-Fried's trial, it quickly became clear that prosecutors and his defense attorneys had very different approaches. But Bankman-Fried's attorneys may convince jurors that Bankman-Fried genuinely believed his actions were acceptable in the wild-west cryptocurrency industry. The challenge for Bankman-Fried's attorneys is to convince jurors that he didn't know about any wrongdoing. "Sam directed me to," Ellison testified.

UBS posted a second-quarter profit of $28.88 billion in its first quarterly earnings since Switzerland's largest bank completed its takeover of stricken rival Credit Suisse. UBS said the result primarily reflected $28.93 billion in negative goodwill on the Credit Suisse acquisition. UBS paid a discounted 3 billion Swiss francs ($3.4 billion) to acquire Credit Suisse in March. "Credit Suisse has excellent people, clients, and product capabilities, but the business model was not sustainable any longer and needs to be restructured." UBS delayed reporting its second-quarter results — initially scheduled for July 25 — until after completing the Credit Suisse takeover on June 12.
